The foodies guide to Morzine in Winter

09 May 2016

In winter, Morzine is a veritable cornucopia of eating establishments. Last winter we took on the unfortunate task of trying out most of them to bring you a shortlist.  Here’s what Team Boutique think of them, and why…

On The Mountain

Restaurant Le Vaffieu

Arguably the best mountain restaurants in Morzine and has a superb reputation to match. Its very small, traditionally French inside and has a charming and cosy feel, perfect for those looking to escape the snow on a cold day. You can access this by foot and on a clear day you can enjoy the view of Mont Blanc whilst sipping a local French craft. Our opinion - Food 5/5  Atmosphere 5/5

Restaurant La Cremaillere

The restaurant holds a very impressive reputation. It’s located in the heart of the Lindarets dining scene or ‘The Goat Village’ as it’s also known. La Cremaillere is typically known for its beautiful sun terrace and its local specialties of the Haute-Savoie which makes it a perfect venue to enjoy some spring sunshine. Our opinion - Food 5/5  Atmosphere 4/5

Restaurant Crapahute

A ‘wildcard’ entry as this isn't on a regular ski piste. Set away in the heart of the Vallee de la Manche this restaurant can only be accessed by foot or for those skiing off-piste from Avoriaz. It’s a top secret spot, mainly known only to the locals. It has brilliant views and the most wonderful setting. The food is honest Savoyard, and the ambiance of the venue really elevates the dining experience. Our opinion - Food 3/5  Atmosphere 5/5

Alt.1490 Exclusif

If you are looking for a restaurant with a view, well I present you Restaurant Exclusif’s panoramic view of snow covered mountains. With the most outstanding and breathtaking views over the back of Les Gets, Mont Chery and on a clear day Mont Blanc. But lets not forget the food, the menu is made from some typical savoyard dishes with a modern twist, and an extensive wine menu to match. A truly special place to spend a blissful afternoon. Our opinion - Food 4/5  Atmosphere 5/5

In Morzine centre

Le Clin d’Oeil

Le Clin d’Oeil offers a more modern twist to French cuisine with scallop and tiger prawn skewers, roasted rack of lamb and the duck leg with prunes in an armagnac sauce, which by the way is fantastic. Definitely a restaurant known for its fine dining also a warm and cosy atmosphere. Our opinion - Food 4/5  Atmosphere 4/5

The Farmhouse

A truly fantastic restaurant and hotel. The Farmhouse or known locally as Le Mas de la Coutettaz was built in 1771 and is the oldest building in Morzine and they really incorporate this into their style of dining. With a long banquet style table, sword covered walls, a chandelier shadowing the table and dining room lit only by candles, you really do feel like you are dining in the 18th century. A beautifully designed 4 course set menu with free flowing wine, followed by petit fours and coffee in the bar will make an experience you will not forget. Our opinion – Food 5/5  Atmosphere 5/5

Chez Layanne

If you are looking for a traditional savoyard fondue restaurant here in the heart of the french alps then Chez Layanne is the place for you. Make yourself at home during the cold evenings of January beside the roaring open fire, or enjoy a sun soaked afternoon with a bottle of rose during the spring. Located about 4km up the Vallee de La Manche its surrounded by beautiful mountain scenes and the peaceful ambiance is perfect after a mornings snowshoe. Our opinion – Food 3/5  Atmosphere 4/5

La Chaudanne

Restaurant and wine bar that offer top quality food and wine to match. With its very own wine cellar in the base of the restaurant you really do have a vast selection, from various regions including, the Cotes du Rhones, Savoie, Bordeaux, the Loire Vallee, and many more, all in which are well priced too. The restaurant offer many savoyard specialities, however for me its the Hamburger de La Chaudanne that takes the all glory, it comes with potato fritters, duck breast and pan-fried Foie Gras, a real taste sensation if you can find the right wine to pair. Our opinion – Food 4/5  Atmosphere 4/5
