MORZINE & LES GETS EVENTS

25 Jan 2018

Throughout winter (and summer), Morzine & Les Gets hosts a series of mostly free events.
From music and film, cultural festivals and charity events, family activity weeks and celebrations of alpine culture.
Here are a few of our top picks.

BEFORE  FEBRUARY HALF TERM

Rock on Snowboard (usually 9-11 Dec )

The opening weekend of the season always includes a major ski and snowboard test in Avoriaz. Over 50 major brands arrive and showcase the newest skis and snowboards to test for free. There are live music performances all weekend, fireworks and mulled wine. It’s the first official slide of the season so get your ski legs ready.

La Grande Odyssée (January)

Europe's largest husky dog race sets teams of dogs and mushers against each other as they attempt to cross fourteen resorts across the Savoie region including Morzine, Les Gets, Morillon, Megève and Samoëns. The race runs for around 10 days in January. If you are in resort it’s a must see.

The Snow Carnival, (February month long)

The Snow Carnival is a 4-week long mountain festival dedicated to children. To coincide with the kids holidays, the Portes du Soleil and all its ski resorts, such as Morzine, Les Gets and Avoriaz, organise sledge races, carnival parades, snowmen contests, fireworks, concerts and kids creative workshops. A great addition to any family holiday.

AFTER FEBRUARY HALF TERM

SkiColor, (March)

Inspired by the Colour Run event that runs worldwide, Les Gets hosts an annual SkiColor event. SkiColor requires you and your friends, family and children to ski down a run, through explosions of coloured powder, getting yourself as colourful as possible before you cross the finish line. It’s as messy and delightful as it sounds.

Snow-Camp Alpine Challenge (March)

From the 12th to 15th March, Morzine hosts the Snow-Camp Alpine Challenge. It’s a charity snowsports endurance event to raise money to provide inner city young people with opportunities to participate in snowsports based youth training and vocational programmes. Teams of four must ski 150 km around the resorts of the Portes du Soleil without stopping. If you don’t feel up to the challenge you can still enjoy the spectacle and the celebrations afterwards.

SNOWBOXX (late March)

Based in Avoriaz this week-long electro dance festival combines main stage concerts from headliners such as Basement Jaxx, with après parties and on-piste competitions. Every night a concert takes place in the ‘BOX’ in the centre of Avoriaz. It’s an excitable week of glowsticks and dance moves. This year Fat Boy Slim is head lining.

Rock The Pistes (late March)

The weeklong festival takes place across the entire Portes du Soleil ski area with live music performances in different resorts every single day. The concerts are all free so all you’ll need is your lift pass and a good sense of direction.
