Chalet Alena pairs traditional Alpine design with a Scandinavian twist. The owners of the home are very much an international family and like many, they wanted to build a chalet in which to come together to relax, recharge and reconnect. The plan was to focus on creating a simple and elegant space, the result is grown up, refined and unquestionably luxurious. The property is exceptionally well located being just a few meters from the slopes of Les Gets. It’s the perfect setting from which to frame a relaxed week, no one really has to think about “when are we going skiing” or “where and when shall we meet later” you can just play it by ear.

The chalet itself is triple-aspect with glazing on three main sides of the living space. The changing mountain light is diffused beautifully with soft curtains while layers of white fabrics further create a feeling of serenity. The main living space is the very definition of open plan – kitchen flows to dining flows to living – yet the space is large enough that each area still feels inherently ‘zoned’. The aim was to create a space where a group can cook, dine and relax together, remaining connected to one another and with the possibility of conversation throughout.

A large hanging fireplace creates a stunning centrepiece to the living area, as do the comforting rugs. The kitchen balances design and practicality. It’s one of those spaces that not only looks good, but feels good to be in and to use. The solid stone surfaces are exceptionally high quality and add to the overall aesthetic and luxury feeling that the chalet exudes. A separate pantry and preparation area means any clutter can be kept behind closed doors, allowing the kitchen to shine as an entertaining space, especially amongst groups of friends during an evening soirée.

The same design language flows throughout the chalet. In the bedrooms the clever use of glazed wardrobe units echo the transparency and diffused light of the main living spaces, giving the rooms something of a private dressing-room quality. They are playful without being showy and lend a little glamour to the ritual of getting ready for the evening. There are six bedrooms in total; three main suites and two doubles all of which are en-suite, plus a further bunk room with its own private bathroom, meaning the chalet suits a wide variety of groups.

On the lower level you’ll also find a sumptuous cinema room, perfect if you need a private escape, somewhere perfectly suited to the latest action movie and a darker, more cocooning ambiance to contrast the serenity of the living space above. There are other small touches which speak of the care that has gone into the property design. Even the oversized laundry units – discreetly concealed in the main hallway – are inherently practical but also beautifully well crafted. It’s a small detail, but that is exactly what Alena is all about.

Outside, wrap around balconies offer incredible views across the ski slopes as well as the village of Les Gets. The slopes are incredibly close – less than 100m from the driveway – so this can almost be considered a ski-in ski-out location. The centre of the resort is just a short walk away – or for those choosing to drive, a reserved parking space in the centre of town is also available (as is an abundance of parking at the chalet of course).

Skiing has always been considered chic. Alena is the perfect complement; refined and luxurious… this is a chalet which calms the soul… it’s the most elegant of locations for your next mountain escape.
