24 hours in Tignes

02 Oct 2018

You’ve got just 24hrs to spend in the Espace Killy, home to Val d’Isere and Tignes, two of the most famous ski resorts in the world. But with hundreds of kilometres of incredible skiing, world class dining both on and off the piste, and some of the most famous apres in the Alps, is Espace Killy even possible in 24 hours? The answer is a resounding, YES!  Here’s how with our BC 24hr Insider’s Guide to Tignes and Val d’Isere.

So, you arrived in the bustling mountain resort of Tignes 2100 late last night and now it's time to wake up, get up, and get started. There are bright blue skies, the sun is up and there are hundreds of pistes to be enjoyed. At BC we always start the day with our famous Breakfast Club menu including daily specials created by Head Chef Nick Lyon Dean. They are the perfect way to start your day.
Ready to hit the slopes? With your in-chalet boot and ski fitting taken care of last night you are all ready to conquer the Espace Killy. Your Espace Killy Ski Pass covers an extensive area of ski slopes surrounding both Tignes and Val D’Isere which is perfect for today.
Start by heading up the Toviere lift and take in your playground. Take a moment to survey the pistes whilst ascending to the top. The skiing options are almost infinite, from beginner pistes for a gentle start, to double black diamonds for adrenaline hunters - this ski area has it all. If you’re feeling particularly adventurous, and you’ve been blessed with a fresh covering of snow, make the most of the incredible off piste. We recommend you ski off piste with a guide. They will take you to the very best places, for safe extreme skiing, and your BC Concierge can organise it all for you. If you want to warm up, gradually start on some of the gentler pistes to get your ski legs back. Mid morning stop for coffee at the french cafe at the top of the Toviere lift. It’s perfect for a little energy boost and you can catch up with the rest of your group before getting back on the slopes. But where next? Do you fancy Tignes or prefer Val d’Isere? Where’s next on your list?

After a morning skiing what could be more enjoyable than a long lunch, some lovely wine and a chance to sit in the mountain sun? Why not take the funiculaire from Tignes Val Claret, all the way to the top. You will emerge to some of the most stunning views of the Tarentaise Valley and the Tignes Glacier, the alps unfolding before you, for miles and miles and miles. It’s truly breathtaking. We suggest having lunch on the Terrace at the Funiculaire Restaurant. Here you can enjoy a delicious lunch, some fine wines and those spectacular views. Let your BC Concierge book a table for you in advance - let’s make sure you get the best table!

After lunch it’s time to put those skis back on (even if this is done at a slightly slower pace after you’ve added some fine wine and a filling lunch into the equation!). Head towards Val D’Isere using the signs and extensive piste maps to guide you on your way. Alternatively follow your guide! Le Fornet ski area will provide you with long leisurely blue pistes and incredible views so you can enjoy the mountain at a more relaxed pace. Late afternoon, after an active first days skiing, legs are tired, cheeks are pink and the mood is high so it's time to enjoy an apres drink at L’Escale Blanche, a restaurant/bar in the centre of Tignes Le Lac. With a large sun terrace, a central location and an excellent drink selection it offers a brilliant apres atmosphere to finish your ski day.

Following a drink (or two!) it’s time to kick those ski boots off and relax. This is where Bamford & Boutique become your very best friend. Our partnership with Bamford offers you your own private Bamford Spa in the luxury of your ski residence. After arriving back at your chalet or residence take the time to enjoy your beautiful swimming pool, hot tub and hammam. So float around in the pool, relax in the steam room, soak in the hot tub. Your Bamford Spa therapist will be on hand to offer a selection of Bamford’s organic and botanical massages and treaments to relax and restore your muscles after a fabulous days sking.** There is even a mini Bamford pop-up store in-house where you can treat yourself to their delicious products to enjoy back at home.

By now you should be feeling that perfect ski combination – the lovely warm tired feeling from a great day’s skiing, and the relaxation that comes from mountain days followed by relaxing spa sessions! So now it’s time to enjoy your BC in-chalet dining experience.

Choose from one of the BC dining experiences, all hand picked and curated to perfeclty complement your stay. All you will need to do is luxuriate on one of the sumptous sofas in front of a warm open fire and enjoy BC cocktails while your private chef prepares delicious culinary delights for you to enjoy.

BC is passionate about wine so ask your chalet manager to match a selection of wines to your chosen menu. Alternatively peruse the extensive wine list yourself, or take a moment in the wine cellars and pick your own personal favourite wines to accompany your meal.

After dinner it’s time for digestivs in front of the fire, or a film in the private cinema, or perhaps take another moment to enjoy the terrace and the hot tub and that view! It’s been 24 hours in the making and its been the most perfect ski day. Now it’s time to get some well earned rest so slink off to your bedroom suite, lie back and relax in your slumber inducing bed and spend the night dreaming of snow. We can, after all, do it all again tomorrow.

**Just ask your BC Concierge to send you the treatment list and we can pre-book any massages and treatments you may wish to have.
